openSUSE 10.3

Well, I was getting sick of my problems in Kubuntu so I decided to try suse. Installed it and was hooked after 20 mins – my wireless was set up with the proper driver and everything worked (except for having to select my keyboard layout and install the ATI driver) which was also fairly painless. SUSE has an incredibly clean interface and the whole system seems well put together. The only thing I do not like is the package management system – because it takes forever to load. The “1-click install” feature on suse 10.3 is very very nice.

After my “20 minute” breaking in phase, I went ahead and moved all my files to the suse partition and nuked Kubuntu, so I finally have my whole hard drive to use for the first time since getting this laptop.

What I really like about SUSE: You can hack and tweak and fiddle to your heart’s content, but you don’t HAVE to just to have a running system. Everything great so far, give it a try! It’s 100% my new recommendation for an OS.

PS: Not important but compiz works great on suse, whereas it didn’t work at all off Ubuntu.
